Students often ask, “When will we ever use this?” I like to turn that question back around and use current events, pictures, etc. to ask the students, “Where’s the math?” One such opportunity presents itself this month with Naples’ attempt to set a record for the longest pizza.

Things to think about: how much cheese, sauce, flour, olive oil, etc…- the units offer a perfect opportunity for unit conversions… the design of the car that will bake the pizza as it travels…just to list a few of the opportunities here – what else did you and/or your students come up with?
