What our clients are saying:

“You guys are awesome…just saying this out loud.”

Dr. Mata Banks, Claiborne County, TN

“You  truly are an educator.  For me and a few others I talked to, yours was the most useful, encouraging, and best presented session so far.  It’s a shame you didn’t have more time. Most of us are here to learn, and just watching you cover so much material in so little time was a learning experience in itself.

You even squeezed in a few questions and interacted with “your class”.    If you had presented on a fictional subject such as “Packing Widgets in China” just to demonstrate how to teach it would have been worth the drive from west TN, BUT I got so much more and want to beg you for more.  I love it when my students beg for more, don’t you…. Today you encouraged me to keep doing what I am doing and also to present an in-service to all of the ABE teachers at the prison where I teach.  Teachers have been asking me for electrical situations that require math so that they can prepare their students for my class.  Many want to take my class but are afraid of the math.  I know what that feels like. ….. Keep doing what you are doing.  You have no idea how many lives you are changing.”

John Fagan, Hardeman County Correctional Facility

“Tammy’s knowledge of mathematical concepts and common core content is unmatched. Her expertise in K-12 mathematics, combined with our teachers’ experience and commitment, enabled our district and teacher teams not only to develop deeper understanding of both content and strategies, but to understand the entire learning progression of standards at all levels.”

Suzanne Bryant, Assistant Director of Schools for Curriculum & Instruction, Greeneville, TN

The Top 5 Reasons for Using Manipulatives in the Classroom

Have you ever asked or said or heard a fellow educator ask or say… “Exactly what constitutes a manipulative?” “I have some of these manipulatives in my closet, but do not have a clue how to use them!” “How do I find the time to use manipluatives in the classroom when I have so much […]

Happy National National Chocolate Day: October 28thChocolate Day!

National Chocolate Day: October 28th My grandmother always said, “God was in a good mood the day He created chocolate!” I grew up thinking that chocolate was a basic food group! And, I admit, chocolate is one of my weaknesses. What does National Chocolate Day have to do with mathematics!   Well – where’s the math? […]

Functional Fluency

I just returned from NCTM Boston. What a great week! I got to catch up with a lot of old friends and made several new ones as well. My co-author, Leslie Texas, and I did a session on one of our strategies from our book series What’s My Move: A Kinesthetic Multisensory Approach to Graphing […]

The 12 Days of Mathematics for Christmas: Day 1

Tomorrow is December 1st. With my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, just over, everyone is now turning their thoughts to Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. One of my grandsons’ favorite Christmas songs is the Twelve Days of Christmas. In honor of this song I am creating The Twelve Days of Mathematics for Christmas. There are activities for K-3. […]

The 12 Days of Mathematics for Christmas: Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of the Twelve Days of Mathematics for Christmas:  These activities were inspired by one of my grandsons’ favorite Christmas songs: the Twelve Days of Christmas. There are activities for K-3. Intermediate – MS (grade 4 – grade 7), and Secondary (Grade 8 –Grade 12) and correlated to the number of the day. […]

The 12 Days of Mathematics for Christmas: Day 8

Welcome to Day 8 of the Twelve Days of Mathematics for Christmas:  One of my grandsons’ favorite Christmas songs is the Twelve Days of Christmas. In honor of this song I am creating The Twelve Days of Mathematics for Christmas. There are activities for K-3. Intermediate – MS (grade 4 – grade 7), and Secondary (Grade […]

NCTM, San Francisco

My colleagues and I really enjoyed your presentation at NCTM.  We have already convinced our principal to pre-order us copies of your new book, but we would also like 4 class sets of the pyramids.

Many presentations talked about problem solving and the benefits of giving students higher level thinking problems, but yours was the only one that really told us how to teach it and scaffold it for students, rather than just modeling what problem-solving looks likes.  Thanks.
